Goal:
Unbox and organize the kit, getting ready for installing the app and testing the electronics.
Concepts:
- Organization saves time and reduces frustration.
- One organizational method is “like-with-like.” (Grampa really likes this idea!)
Materials:
- Spike Prime Kit
- Spike Prime Expansion Kit
- USB charger
Preparation:
Get together the Spike kits and the additional storage bins.
Procedure:
- Watch parts 1 & 3 (Introduction and Unboxing) of this video:
https://education.lego.com/start/spike-prime - Open the Spike Prime kit and apply the labels to the white top-bins as shown in the diagram accompanying the label sheet and shown in the video.
- Fill the bins as shown in the video. Make sure that all the Bin 7 parts are there. There is a parts list on the back of the cardboard cover inside the bin.
- Unbox the Expansion Kit, putting the smaller pieces into the compartments of the additional storage bins.
- Insert the battery into the hub as shown in the video. Then charge the battery using the USB cable. When you first start charging, a little red light next to the charging port on the hub will go on. When the battery is fully charged, the light will change to green.
- Do not worry about downloading the app and connecting the app to the hub. We will do that next time; but you can try if you want to. You can’t break anything!
Homework:
Gather all the electronics and motors together, to get ready to test them out.
